Waterlilies, was one of a series of paintings that reflected Monet's fascination with lily ponds. He often worked in his garden, under a large white umbrella, and would sit for long periods contemplating the composition of his next work. Many paintings in this series were rendered on huge canvases, and captured the many subtle, natural changes in the lily pond.
